Student Evaluation Case Competition

For 2025, CES will be going online! In response, the Case Competition is evolving to create a dynamic and challenging experience for emerging evaluators! Read here for more details on how the competition will work this year, but overall changes include:

  • The first round will operate as normal (teams across the country will compete virtually and submit their response to us)

  • The top three teams will be invited to participate in a virtual final round at the Canadian Evaluation Society Annual Conference.

  • Teams turn their written proposal into a presentation and revise their ideas in response to new requests from the sponsoring organization. Students will be challenged to demonstrate project management skills, including navigating scope creep and client expectations and managing evaluation resources.

  • The top 3 teams will receive full registration to the CES conference, along with a $500 team prize.

Email casecomp@evaluationcanada.ca if you have any questions about the format change.

What is the Case Competition?

Running for over twenty years, the Student Evaluation Case Competition is a two-round annual Canadian competition that helps post-secondary students build and showcase their program evaluation skills. Through the use of real-world programs and cases, students work in teams to respond to a request for proposals over a limited time period.

The Case Competition provided an excellent opportunity for me to advance my communication, teamwork, and evaluation skills. It was the best experience of my graduate studies!

The Case Competition has become a very important component in our program. It is a perfect way to illustrate the ‘real-world’ issues of evaluation and better prepare students for their eventual careers.
